Missilforsvarsagenturet eller Misilforsvarskontoret. Nyt
navn 2002 for the Ballistic Missile Defence Organisation. Er
ansvarlig for forskning, udvikling, testning og evaluering af NMD,
the Ballistic Missile Defense System eller Ground-based Midcourse
Defense, foruden Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, det
skibsbaserede Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense, the Airborne Laser
og Space Tracking and Surveillance System.
MDA budgeted $1.5 billion of its fiscal year 2005 research and
development funds to acquire interceptors and radars and upgrade
various BMDS components. It expects to continue to acquire and
upgrade BMDS assets through 2011 and beyond. DOD has budgeted $68.5
billion to develop, procure, operate, and sustain a missile defense
capability between 2005 and 2011.
Våbenfabrikker som Boeing og
Lockheed Martin indgår i denne
sammenhæng i the Missile Defence National Team. The Missile
Defence Agency arbejder sammen med the National Aeronautics and
Space Administration (NASA), eksempelvis ved opsendelsen af
sattelitten Clementine i 1994.
