kætteri / heresy

Person eller gruppe af mennesker, som bevidst afviger fra det herskende tankesæt og moral indenfor en institutionel religion, f.eks. i forhold til dogmer, sakramenter eller leveregler. Lollarderne i England var f.eks. kættere som følge af deres pacifisme. Efter reformationen anses alle katolikker i de lutheranske lande for kættere, ligesom alle Reformerte mv. anses for kættere i katolske lande. Den da nyreligiøse sekt kvækerne betragtes som kættere i enevældens Danmark. Både i England og USA anses kvækere og medlemmer af andre historiske fredskirker som kættere og dømmes herfor. Domme for kætteri kunne medføre dødsstraf.
/ Person or group of people who deliberately departs from the prevailing mindset and morality within an institutional religion, for example. in relation to dogmas, sacraments or maxims. The Lollard's in the United Kingdom was deemed heretics as a result of their pacifism. After the Reformation, all Catholics in the Lutheran countries was deemed of heretics, like all Reformed, etc.. were considered heretics in the Catholic countries. New religious sect as the Quakers was regarded as heretics in the absolute monarchy of Denmark. Both in England and the United States Quakers and members of other historic peace churches was considered as heretics and condemned accordenly. Judgments of heresy could bring the death penalty.
